I have a love of the fantastical, curiosity for everything, and a passion to construct images that are interesting to the viewer and entertaining to create. Born and raised along the Hudson River in NY, I transplanted to Boston in 1998 to begin studies at The Art Institute of Boston (now LUCAD – Lesley University College of Art and Design), and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Illustration.

My work uses a variety of materials including artist grade acrylics and Dr. Ph Martin’s Radiant Concentrated Watercolors (with the occasional use of Winsor & Newton Watercolor).  Occasionally use of cut-paper, newspaper, sharpies are thrown into the mix for fun.

Acrylic-on-canvas pieces include detailed line work done with brush, and because stretched canvas with thick sides are used, imagery and backgrounds extend onto the sides—eliminating the need for framing, and creating a piece that engages the viewer from all sides.  Watercolor illustrations use either a pen/nib with Higgins waterproof ink or Faber-Castell India Ink Pens, and are always created on good quality watercolor paper.

In all of my pieces I pull from a combination of imagination and reality, inspired by things that have caught my attention or captured my curiosity.

In October 2011 I co-founded Dedham’s first artist cooperative, the Dedham Square Artist Guild, helping to usher in a new era of art in Dedham, MA. The cooperative gallery currently showcases the work of 22 artists, all of whom are members of the gallery and Massachusetts residents. We offer the opportunity for non-members to have one-day artist showcases as well, extending our commitment to helping artists exhibit their work to a broader audience. Operating on a 99% volunteer basis, the gallery is staffed by members. In 2013 we began group exhibitions at the Dedham Community Theatre, which are open to members and non-members; we also continue to donate artwork for auction to charities and non-profits in the Norfolk County area.

  1. Marietta,
It’s been ages and I hear congratulations are in order!
Everyone always comments on the bird you drew for my logo and I’d love to give him an expanded role in my marketing. Might you be able to draw a few variants (line drawings only) of the bird in different poses? Let me know and I’ll give you an idea what I have in mind.
